Why

We have a responsibility to leave the people and places we touch better than they found them.

So this is why you should work hard to build an organization that does something meaningful. Something that adds some positive energy to our world. A place where people can do good work and feel good about their mission. Because everyone wants a great place, surrounded by great people, to do meaningful work.

A place...

Everyone has hopes, dreams, and problems. It's our responsibility as humans to help each other with those.

That's why. So if you don't have that, go build that. The world needs more of that. And I don't care about your excuses. Those are your excuses. If it was easy everyone would do it. So don't be everyone. Be the one that refuses to accept the status quo. It's easy to go along. To say it's out of your control. It's hard to do hard things. Stop making excuses and start making better.

“When you find yourself in the majority it is time to pause and reflect” – Mark Twain

And the closing lines from the opening speech of the movie Patton:

“Then there's one thing you men will be able to say when this war is over and you get back home. Thirty years from now when you're sitting by your fireside with your grandson on your knee and he asks, 'What did you do in the great World War Two?' You won't have to cough and say, 'Well, your granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana.' No sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say 'Son, your granddaddy rode with the great Third Army and a son-of-a-goddamned-bitch named George Patton! All right, you sons of bitches. You know how I feel. I'll be proud to lead you wonderful guys in battle anytime, anywhere. That's all.”

So what say you? Shovel? Or Fight? What will you say in 30 years? You went along for the ride or you helped build something that made the world a little better.
